Our experiments were simple (case-study-based) and not robust (without scaling and diversity). A failed attempt doesn’t mean it can’t happen. For example, one of the cases we described (spoofing the owner’s identity) was tried by several researchers and failed, until finally the breach was found.
What ultimately drew me toward management wasn’t discontent with IC work. It was about influence. No matter how skilled you become, your individual output hits a limit. I’d encountered this before when transitioning from engineering to developer advocacy, and management represented the next iteration of that insight. If I could empower a team to excel, the collective results would far surpass anything I could achieve alone.
